Archbishop John Olorunfumi Onaiyekan has been named cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI at Vatican, Rome, making him the fourth catholic cardinal after Dominic Cardinal Ignatius Ekadem, Francis Cardinal Arinze and Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie.
John Onaiyekan before his elevation was the Archbishop of Abuja dioceses.
Earlier this month, Onaiyekan and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, were short-listed for a Nobel Peace Prize.
